We are supporting a leading technology consultancy that is hiring an experienced Java Consultant candidate for a hybrid fixed-term contract role. This opportunity is ideal for a strong Java Engineer, Java Developer, or Software Engineer with enterprise software development experience, especially within banking, financial services, payments, trading, regulatory reporting, or other complex regulated environments.
The successful Java Consultant will work on client-facing delivery projects, building scalable backend systems, cloud-native applications, REST APIs, and microservices using modern Java technologies.
Java Consultant Role Overview
As a Java Consultant, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-grade Java applications for complex client projects. You will work closely with engineering teams, architects, product owners, and client stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Java applications.
- Build scalable backend systems, microservices, and REST APIs.
- Work with modern Java versions, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Hibernate.
- Support cloud-native development across AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes environments.
- Apply strong engineering practices including TDD, unit testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and clean code principles.
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, engineers, and client teams.
- Contribute to solution design, technical troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Deliver software solutions for complex environments such as banking, payments, trading, risk, regulatory reporting, and financial services platforms.
Required Skills and Experience for this Role
- Strong commercial experience as a Java Developer, Java Engineer, Software Engineer, or Java Consultant.
- Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Microservices, REST APIs, and Hibernate.
- Experience with Maven, Gradle, JUnit, Mockito, and TDD.
- Good knowledge of CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience working in cloud or cloud-native environments.
- Previous experience in banking, fintech, payments, trading, financial services, or regulated enterprise environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a consultancy-led or client-facing delivery environment.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Java 8, Java 11, Java 17, or Java 21.
- Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience building high-volume enterprise applications.
- Background in authentication, payments, trading platforms, risk systems, regulatory reporting, or financial services technology.
- Professional cloud certifications would be beneficial.
